A New Pollution is a mixed media collaboration between London artists George Mavrikos and Caroline Södergren that will include photography, video and ephemeral sculpture. It will explore the subject of climate change by addressing the relation between preservation, extinction and evolution. Through the mediums of photography, video and sculpture the factual world meets a fictional world.

A series of sculptures will represent fictional microorganisms that are the direct result of species evolution triggered by modern pollution. The photographs and videos will represent fragments of human civilisation. And together the final pieces shall represent the coexistence of this continues change. A change that can be both positive and negative, but has forever been part of the planet’s history and will continue long after we are gone.

It is our intention to convey a message of hope. Climate change does not necessarily dictate an end but a new beginning. Species evolve and species vanish. But when shapes and forms of life change, life adopts. While the human civilisation might become extinct, life on planet earth will go on, adapt and thrive, and give rise to to a species with a greater intelligent than ours.

The project will launch with a series of live streamed performances on www.anewpollution.com starting the 30th of June 2019.
